Default What the heck is up with Thrill of Victory?

Well, I hope someone that has some information that they can give reads this and responds. I'm just thoroughly confused and my feelers got hurt this past beta. I just want to understand what's going on >.<

Thrill of Victory (Melee Attack) If this hits, and you have more Health than target foe, you strike for +(10..34) damage. Updated: 3/18/05 5 None None
Ever since the E34E event, I have loved the Thrill of Victory warrior skill. I've been trying to get this skill ever since the E34E event because I liked it so much. I almost got it this beta, but the person who had the charm for it somehow lost all of his charms for this beta weekend...

Then they allowed for the option of the pre-mades being able to use all skills available in the current beta. I tried this out, and then noticed that the Thrill of Victory skill sounded kind of weird.

They have changed the entire premise of the skill. It is now a skill like mind burn, where if you use the skill and your health was greater than the enemies health, then you deal some extra amount of damage.

Well, when I finally got this skill in game, I decided that I might as well use it.

When I first used this, I was battling some monster, they were at about half health, and I was at about full health. I used this, expecting to see two damage numbers, but only saw one. Then I looked to see if I had actually used it, and I had. It was recharging.

So then I got confused. I wondered if maybe the description had changed but the skill remained the same as a glitch(which would be totally friggen sweet!), so I used it as the fatal blow on an enemy, and low and behold....I gained 10 health..... I was pretty pissed.

So this skill is glitched. And it says that it's still unrelated to any attribute, but it had a heal range on it.

My questions:
1. Why was it changed?
2. How come it doesn't do what the description says?
3. Why is there a damage range when it isn't linked to any attribute?

I know that the devs will constantly nerf skills. But I've never seen any skill get completely changed in terms of what the skill does.

Please, ANet, bring the original Thrill of Victory back.

You gained health when you used that? WTF?? That's not even in the description! If you do gain health, and they link this to an attribute so you gain more health, screw Final Thrust I'm taking this.

Good questions, sorry I couldn't be of help.

They probably tried to nerf the skill, and it may have been overlooked in the last event and goofy things happened.

Either that, or the info for the skill is outdated (from the Feb event perhaps) and isn't up to date with the March event. Unlikely though, hopefully we can figure this out.

Well, it used to be that you gain 100 health if it was the fatal blow (during the January Beta) then they upped it to a 200 health gain if it was the fatal blow (during the February beta). Now it's supposed to do some extra damage, but it doesn't. It seems as if the only thing changed was the numbers for it. It's as if it's the exact same skill as it has been, but they put that 10 in instead of 200.

Also, the 10 never raised up when I raised different attributes, so it truely is not related to any attribute, even though the skill description from within the game showed it as a range.

Because the old version was, simply, terrible. Sure, it was a bit of a skill tester and the effect looked nice on paper, but in practice is was horribly impractical and just ended up devouring energy and giving you health you don't need. It was changed in an attempt to create another useful Warrior skill.

Probably because the change was made shortly before the BWE, and the code and the description haven't synched up yet. The game is still in development, and disconnects like that happen.

See above. They've conceptualized the new Thrill of Victory, but it is currently only partway implemented. What you see is a skill in development, not a final skill. It should work as advertised in retail.

Then you haven't been paying attention - hell, just look at the Nature Rituals. Weak skills are getting changed hard in an attempt to find a place for them - Arcane Mimicry is perhaps the best example. Thrill of Victory is one of many of these skills. It isn't any different, it just happened to be a pet skill of yours so you noticed the change.

Thrill of Victory was not nerfed - far from it. It was changed in an attempt to find a place for it on people's skill bars. We'll see how successful they are.

Peace,
-CxE

Shucks, I loved that skill. It'll be sad to see it go

I hope the new Thrill of Victory skill works out well. What is the possibility of the linked attribute being announced before next beta? It seems as if it would be a strength skill, since it's adding damage.

Fare thee well, old Thrill of Victory:

Sorry for the double post, but I figured a double post was not as bad as creating this topic over again.

Ok, so this beta they associated Thrill of Victory with Tactics. It looks like an awesome skill to throw into tactics, and I personally think this will be a good skill to throw in the face of everyone that thinks tactics is worthless.

So, since I love this skill so much and have become attatched to it. I decided to give it a go. I was on 11 tactics and was supposed to do about +25 damage if my health was above the enemies health.

When my enemy was at about 1/4 health and I was at full health, I decided to give it a whirl. Low and behold, nothing. It did absolutely nothing, even though I met all of the requirements for the extra damage!

I tried to use the skill as the fatal blow right after that, but I didn't time it right and I forgot to try it again so I never actually saw if it was still triggering as the fatal blow (like it did earlier) but I'm assuming it did, since it didn't trigger when my health was far above my enemies. I really hope ANet fixes this skill come release, because I'm seriously considering working this into my build!

I think the current thrill of victory is better than the way it was before.

And if you think premises of skills haven't been changed, you need not go far.
